The
Nellikuppam is an integrated sugar complex
– where there are two other processes arising out of
the main process of manufacture of sugar. Operating
with 542 personnel, it is one of the few integrated
sugar factories in the country producing co-generated
power (24.5 MW), rectified spirit (45KL/day) and
organic manure products. Some of the salient features
of the integrated sugar complex are:
- It is a zero-waste plant meaning that
all by-products generated are further processed into
saleable products.
- Molasses, bagasse and press mud, which are all
by-products of the sugar manufacturing process, are
converted into rectified spirit, power and organic
manure products respectively.
- The Nellikuppam plant has the distinction of being
the first sugar factory in India.
Though times have changed, a rich blending of the past
and the present has been retained at Nellikuppam.
