heralded its entry into the branded sugar segment in
the country with the launch of its Parry's pure

Chennai, P.Rama Babu, managing director, EID Parry
said "we are confident of making a big splash in
the branded segment with our products. Going forward
we will foray into other exotic variants of sugar like
golden syrup, brown sugar, cubes etc." He added
that the product will initially be launched in Tamil
Nadu and later extended to other parts of the
country. Available in one kg refill packs and
PET bottles the sugar has been priced at Rs.23.50 and
Rs.29 per kg respectively. "It is processed
hygienically from first grade cane and has a longer
shelf life of 18 months," he said. Talking about
the sugar market in India, Rama Babu said India is the
largest sugar consumer and the second largest producer
in the world. Despite this the per capita consumption
in India is still low at 18 Kg and offers immense
potential for manufactures. He further added that
Tamil Nadu accounts for 17 percent of the sugar
produced in the country.
